Session Outcome - How to Facilitate your Centre’s Standardisation Process
16th May 2016 Date of publication
A practitioner workshop entitled “How to facilitate your Centre’s Standardisation Process” was held on 11th May 2016 at One Awards Peterlee.
The session covered the purpose and benefits of the standardisation process and what individual centres must demonstrate in order to meet the requirements of centre recognition. The session included planning activities for an individual standardisation session concentrating on factors such as who should attend, who would facilitate the process, how often the sessions should take place and how to use actual assessed work.Participants undertook a simple standardisation exercise using some provided learner work and analysed both the process and how this would be recorded.
Critical points from the session included the importance of emphasising that standardisation is not second marking but that it is agreement about the assessment decisions, the importance of the recording the actual decisions made from the standardisation activity and transferring these to actions and outcomes which can be shared. Providing an explanation of the purpose of a standardisation exercise to those who would attend was also identified as an importance factor which would benefit their own processes. Examples templates were provided which will be available on One Awards website. Participants shared examples of their own practice.
