'One' Partnership goes from Strength to Strength

28th March 2014 Date of publication

Open College Network North East Region (OCNNER), which has helped adult learners get recognised qualifications for more than 20 years, has unveiled a new name and a fresh look for 2014. They will now be known as One Awards.

The change of name marks the company’s new partnership with NOCN, one of the UK’s leading credit-based awarding organisations.

One Awards' Chief Executive, Louise Morritt said:

“Our partnership with NOCN is going from strength to strength and we are working with them to offer a complementary portfolio which, although separate companies and charities, will strengthen both organisations. Now is the ideal time to rebrand ourselves. This will allow us to be clearer about where we’re heading. We’re a growing team and although we’re based in the North East we’re expanding geographically to now cover the whole of the UK and so a new name was needed.”

NOCN Managing Director, Graham Hasting-Evans said:

“We’ve worked closely with OCNNER for the last 20 years and now embark on a new way of working. We’re keen to preserve the heritage of the Open College Network (OCN) and by strengthening the relationship with One Awards, together we can help not only learners achieve their goals, but employers to meet the growing challenges and demands of the 21st century.”

One Awards will still retain its excellent customer service record, commitment to its values of openness and responsiveness and additionally, fees and charges remain the same for the fifth year running. It is hoped the fresh new brand will make things clearer and appeal to a wider market.

To mark the 20 year milestone, One Awards has several events planned throughout the year, including a celebration and awards event which took place on Friday 21 March at The Sage, Gateshead, which included the presentation of awards to centres, tutors and learners. One Awards has also commissioned a commemorative book detailing the history of the Open College Network in the North East Region and the organisations and learners involved with them over the past 20 years.
