NOCN Group marks International Day of Charity by supporting Trussell Trust Food Banks

5th September 2019 Date of publication

Today (Thursday 5th September 2019) is the International Day of Charity and as part of our commitment to supporting local and national charities NOCN Group has launched its campaign to support The Trussell Trust’s Food Bank.

In the UK, more than 14 million people are living in poverty – including 4.5 million children. The Trussell Trust’s Food Bank network offer parcels to those who are in crisis and donations from NOCN Group headquarters in Sheffield will be given to Burngreave Foodbank, a local project founded by the Rock Christian Centre, a local church in Burngreave, with a mission to put an end to hunger in the local area.

Helen Shorter, Head of Marketing and Communications comments: “As a leading educational and skills charity, our heritage is rooted in upskilling workers for redeployment in industrial Britain and informs our social mobility agenda. Our charitable status drives our purpose and activity, and we want more people to engage in education, apprenticeships and skills training, more often in their lives. Many studies have shown the effects of hunger on people’s ability to learn, so we are very pleased to be supporting the Trussell Trust food banks in their work to end hunger and poverty in the UK.”

A collection box has been set up within NOCN Group’s office and all staff have been provided with a list of items they can donate including toiletries and household items.
