10th July 2015 Date of publication

Middlesbrough College held their Annual Student Awards on 6th July 2015.  One Awards supported the event and presented the Access to HE Student of the Year Award which was won by:

Beverley Mather Access to HE (Humanities and Social Sciences), nominated by Ian Evans, Middlesbrough College.

Bev was nominated as she is an enthusiastic, strong-minded student. She joined the Access course in September as a shy and nervous student. Throughout the year she has grown in both confidence and academic ability, responding thoughtfully to the feedback she has been given.

Bev gets along well with all the students in her class; she listens carefully, understands and responds diplomatically to what she is told. Bev has managed to secure a place on the Social Work degree at Teesside University, where her caring and compassionate nature along with her enthusiasm for learning and her readiness to refine her skills, will no doubt lead to a successful career. Despite her hearing disability, Bev always manages to contribute in lessons, offering meaningful insights in all of her subjects. Her understanding and her academic skills have been developed and Bev is now working at a Distinction standard; she is fully prepared and looking forward to her university course.
