HE Admissions Fair for Access to HE Students 2019
7th November 2019 Date of publication
On 17th October 2019 One Awards hosted its annual HE Admissions Fair for Access to HE students. The event provides the opportunity for students to find out more about Higher Education courses and career opportunities. Hosted at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland, the event had 26 exhibitors from higher education institutions across the country in attendance who were on hand to speak to students about courses and give advice about progression routes after they complete their Diploma.
Throughout the day over 300 students and tutors attended to take advantage of the opportunity to speak to the exhibitors and drop in on the useful and informative workshops which were scheduled. The aim of the day was to provide students with answers to any questions they may have in relation to study at higher education or consider a degree apprenticeship.
Many of the questions from students involved the UCAS application process; having completed an Access to HE Diploma as opposed to a more traditional route, students were keen to know whether this would affect their success in enrolment.
The answer of course being ‘no’! This was covered in the first workshop of the day by Clare Beckett, Director of Student Recruitment and Admissions at Kingston University, who reassured students that their Access to HE Diploma gave them a good grounding for health-related courses at university, which is the case across many subjects.
As always, the subject specific workshops were popular with students who had booked onto the event armed with questions about their future in a role and industry. The Nursing and Midwifery workshop, hosted by Northumbria University, covered the different programmes available, the theory and practice elements of the courses and what enrolment officers look for in candidates.
Other popular workshops included the Student Finance session, hosted by Student Finance England, and the Personal Statement workshops hosted by Northumbria University, Kingston University and Teesside University which saw many students dropping in during the day to pinpoint exactly what they should and shouldn’t include in their personal statements, with a chance to ask questions and get advice from the experts.
The HE Admissions Fair 2019 was another fantastic event, with positive feedback from all exhibitors. Students who attended were able to get answers to all their questions and feel inspired to take the next step in their education.
