DCC Strategic Youth Work Team Learner Celebration

22nd October 2014 Date of publication

Learners from Durham County Council Youth Work Strategic Team were presented with their certificates at a celebratory event.

The learners had completed the One Awards Level 3 Sexual Health and Young People course and were presented with their certificates.

Two of the learners were presented with special awards for their commitment during the course.

Kathryn Barras

Kathryn has wanted to do this course for a few years though personal circumstances have not allowed for this.  In 2013/14 timings, venue etc. meant she was finally able to do it alongside her other commitments.  Kathryn is a model learner who engaged fully in taught sessions and home groups, she was active in supporting her peers and was a calming influence on the group.   Kathryn experimented with a number of activities and resources and tested their value within her group of young people with special needs.  She spent time amending and creating games to best address the learning styles and maturity of her young people.  Kathryn’s final observation highlighted how Kathryn also utilised her young volunteers and ensured they were prepared and able to support individual young people engage in each activity.

Natalie McDonough and Kathryn Barras were presented with special awards for their commitment during the course.

Natalie McDonough

Natalie came into this course as a complete novice in Sex Relationship Education and group work, working two jobs, doing voluntary work and managing a family.  Juggling workload and time presented their challenges, yet Natalie achieved this, testing her own risk and safety zones, questioning to ensure understanding in order to complete her portfolio, she whole heartedly embraced the course learning and achieved the learning outcomes.  Natalie was very prepared and creative in her final observed assessment, embracing technology and a variety of group work methods.
