Access to HE Forum 2018; a practical approach to student and tutor-friendly assessment

Undertaking an Access to HE Diploma is an exciting route to Higher Education, allowing students to gain qualifications which equip them with the skills and knowledge to further their education at university. At One Awards, we work in partnership with Access to HE providers and HE institutes to develop courses which meet the needs of the students in a range of subjects from nursing and social sciences, to law and computing.
Through supporting our providers we’ve identified assessment load as a hot topic of conversation amongst both practitioners and students. With so many factors to consider it can be difficult to develop a robust assessment model which is also manageable.
At our Access to HE Forum on 15th June, our Diploma Moderator, Alison Zucker, will be hosting a session on ‘Assessment Essentials: a practical approach to student and tutor-friendly assessment’ where she will cover how to ensure a positive student experience. Alison explained “The interactive workshop will take a fresh look at how providers can develop a practical, streamlined approach which is manageable for assessors and how having a model in place can help to maintain the key quality requirements.”
Representatives from the One Awards team will be on hand at the event to answer questions and offer guidance on any topic relating to Access courses. There will also be the opportunity to network with moderators and stakeholders in the industry throughout the day between informative workshops. Other workshops include:
- Access to Opportunities-Curriculum Development and Digital Marketing, hosted by John Earland, Access to HE Manager, One Awards
- Contextualising in practice – GD7 and GD2, hosted by Ros Henderson and Sabine Gretscher, tutors, Newcastle City Learning
- Exploring Health and Social Courses within Higher Education: Future Careers, hosted by Scott Godfrey, Principal Lecturer School of Health & Social Care, Teesside University.
- Developing Future Ready Students: A Digital Perspective, hosted by Jonathan Eaton, Acting Academic Registrar, Teesside University
