Safeguarding helps to ensure people and organisations work together to prevent and stop the risks and experience of abuse or neglect to protect the health, well-being and rights of individuals.
Awareness of Protection and Safeguarding - Level 1
This unit is aimed to be delivered to Students and Apprentices and its purpose is to develop learners’ understanding of protection and safeguarding of at risk adults, children and young people.
Additional units are available for staff who must demonstrate a basic understanding of key legislation, policies and procedures in relation to safeguarding and the Prevent Duty and should understand their own role and that of their organisation in relation to safeguarding.
For Apprentices, they must satisfy the requirement for achievement of a separate safeguarding qualification in the Level 3 Learning Mentor and Level 4 Assessor/Coach apprenticeship standards for England. The unit also provides progression to the Level 2 qualification included within the Level 5 Education and Training Higher Apprenticeship Standard. The standard states that Further Education Learning and Skills Teachers must achieve a Level 2 Safeguarding qualification prior to their end-point assessment.
