We have been working with Calderdale College for two years, supporting both the college and their Access to HE students through a range of materials, events and training.Having started the journey with One Awards after transferring from their previous Access Validating Agency, we asked Claire Lowe, Course Leader at Calderdale College a few questions to shed light on their experience of the transfer process:

What was the main reason you decided to switch your Access Validating Agency?
We weren’t getting the same level of support from our current provider and there were very few training opportunities available to help us improve, so when we looked into One Awards and the services they offer it seemed like the right choice.
What do you think makes One Awards different?
I would have to say that it’s the brilliant, friendly staff that makes the difference to me. Every phone call is answered, queries are sorted out within the day and emails are responded to efficiently. Every member of the team tries to help, even if it’s not their role which really makes us feel valued. It’s like being part of a family! Altogether it’s a totally different approach to providing a service.
How have your students benefited from the transfer?
With One Awards, there is a better and more appropriate variety of units to choose from. The larger units on offer mean that there are ultimately fewer assessments over the year, which we know some students struggle with so it can work to their advantage and impact their success.
Since transferring, have you increased the number of Access to HE courses you offer at Calderdale College?
We have validated three more courses since working with One Awards which we will be offering to new students soon. We already have plans to continue increasing the range as we look forward to working together in the future.
